A Niche for Poetry
Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 12:37PM Even poets can sell books or verse (not the easiest thing in the world to do) if they target thier work to a niche markets. I met a young poet when I was living in Fort Lauderdale who liked to write about her cats. One of the poems was about a cat that lived a solitary but eventful life around the hotel she was staying in on a trip down to Key West. I told her that if she would add two or three dozen more poems to the ones she already had I would publish her book, calling it <<Key West Cats>>.
Such a book would have an almost limitless sales life, selling in souvenir shops and other businesses in Key West and the other keys.
It had a perfect niche: a targeted market, in a limited geographical area, that was easy to reach -- the essentials for many successful niche marketing.
I doesn't have to be poetry and it doesn't have to be cats, but follow the formula and it will work
